Mark Paulussen lives and works in Voorne aan Zee near Rotterdam. Next to his work as an artist he also teaches art. 'Teaching art is a great way to stay connected to the ever changing artscene. It's also really important to inspire the next generation with all art has to offer.'

His studio is situated in an old fortress on a 2.5 acre island hidden in the Dutch landscape. The thick walls and steel door shield against the sometimes colorless aspects of life and allow creativity to present itself.

In search of

--- figurative abstracts explores the pas-de-deux of two oppositional realms in the graphic art domain, both of which offer their own unique perspective on art. The abstract world reveals the fabric that guides our reality. It is the wind that blows through our hair, it is the current in a breaking wave. Revealing that hidden geometry hints on layered truth and interconnected aspects of the narritive as presented to us.

The narritive hides in the figurative aspect of art. It has the power to alter our perspective on reality as we percieve it. It adds to the turmoil that is life. 'The narritive is different for all of us depending on our frame of reference. It's an escape. It's a praise. Maybe a nightmare. But most of all, it's ours.'

Mark Paulussen finds his inspiration in lore, graphic art and music but also in nature: Suspended between water and air, batteling wind and waves.
